We love playing with play-doh. My daughter even sings to Patty Cake as she plays with the dough. Play dough is a great way to build motor skills needed for task like pencil grasp. For this particular activity she helped me roll out the dough by using a roller. We then used the bottom palm of our hands to move the play dough and fill in the gaps. We also used our index fingers to form the Christmas tree. Then my daughter decorate the Christmas tree with pony beads.
For this next activity, we were supposed to roll the dough in the shape of a sphere. I ended up doing most of it while she made her own creation. After I placed all the spheres, my daughter stamped each sphere with a letter. She identified each letter and their sound. She also identified the different colors in the Christmas tree. Sometimes our ideas don't always plan out. The important thing is to have fun, you can always sneak in some learning in the process. Click on the bottom picture for the free file.
