Scarecrow Shape Matchup

Updated: Jan 12, 2021

I'm fixing into taking my little one to our local pumpkin patch soon. Just in case we don't get out there, I've prepared several fall activities for her. This activity was inspired by a book we recently read, filled with beautiful illustrated scarecrows. I decided to design this super adorable scarecrow shape matchup set. I love the idea of how versatile the whole set can be.

Today we decided to use the scarecrow set by matching each card accordingly. She named each shape as she was either looking at the card or placing the shape on to the scarecrow. I'm so amazed how my little one picked up the names of the shapes quite quickly. It's still a little challenging for her to place the shapes on the right order, but she's getting the concept.

Here's a quick video of how we used it today.

I decided to print out a second set of the scarecrow cards so that later we could play a friendly game of memory.

Here's another idea, instead of printing out the shapes you could make the shapes out of play doh and have your little one use those to match each card.

Speaking of play doh, the full size scarecrow sheet can be used as a play doh mat. Roll out the play doh with any color you'd like, and form the doh into the scarecrow's dress. Have your little one add beads, gems and/or buttons to decorate the dress.
